Girls’ Generation has been nominated for two awards at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards Japan.

Their hit single, “MR. TAXI”, is nominated for Best Video of the Year. Released on April 25th of 2011, the music video for “MR. TAXI” has amassed over 47 million views on YouTube. Girls’ Generation is nominated alongside artists like EXILE and Lady Gaga.

In addition to Best Video of the Year, Girls’ Generation is also nominated for Best Album of the Year for their record-breaking album “Girls’ Generation: Japan 1st Album”. The album was a hit, staying in the top ten on the Oricon chart for an incredible thirteen weeks. Along with the repackaged version, it became the first album by a Korean girl group to reach one million shipments. Girls’ Generation’s first Japanese album was widely praised by critics for its solid production and unique sound. Other nominees for this award include KARA (Super Girl), JUJU (YOU), Coldplay (MYLO XYLOTO), and Lady Gaga (Born This Way).

Japanese and Western music videos and albums released in Japan between March 1st, 2011 and February 29, 2012 were eligible for nomination. MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2012 will take place on June 23rd at Makuhari Messe, a convention center just outside Tokyo. Japanese artist Perfume will be the MC’s for this year’s show.
