Jessica Becomes a ‘Talk Princess’ on ‘Taxi’

Girls’ Generation’s “Ice Princess” Jessica showed off her witty talking skills, transforming into a “talk princess”.

During the recording of an upcoming episode of “Taxi”, which will be aired on May 18th at 12:20 AM, Jessica showed off her MCing and talking skills.

This episode will be an idol special with members from Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, and f(x) as guests. It was revealed through SNS (Social Networking Services) that Girls’ Generation’s Jessica, Super Junior’s Sungmin, and f(x)’s Luna would be guest-starring in “Taxi”, increasing the anticipation for the episode.

Jessica, who guest-starred as a representative of Girls’ Generation, will capture viewers with her chic, yet cute charms. Jessica gave honest answers to questions from the viewers, revealing who she thinks is the prettiest member of Girls’ Generation and which member she thinks will get married first. She also ranked her members according several categories and will be revealing stories of the nine girls’ lives and their trainee days.

It was said that the MC for “Taxi”, Gong Hyungjin, showed that he was a samchon fan and could not stop smiling throughout the recording. Because Jessica is usually uncomfortable on talk shows, they directed the mood to make her feel comfortable and helped to make her freely talk. The staff said that soon after Luna and Sungmin joined the filming, Jessica showed off her MCing skills in place of the show’s actual MCs.

With Jessica, Sungmin and Luna continued on the talks with their own volubility. They will deliver funny and heartwarming stories of how they became idols who represent the global K-Pop wave, as well as their own stories of the sweat and tears they shed in the idol world, which isn’t as flashy as it looks.

Girls’ Generation Wows Fans and Korea Yakult Staff with ‘LOOK’ Advertisement Campaign

With one light shining down on them, the “girls” walk onto the stage with a confident pose. Like falling stars, the crystal accessories make the girls’ every step shine.

Sooyoung, dressed in a pink and black striped dress, dominated the stage like a supermodel, while Jessica showed off her sexiness by exposing her stomach with her shirt fluttering in the wind.

This scene, which looked like a grand fashion show being held in a foreign country, was a CF for Korea Yakult’s diet product, “LOOK”. The CF garnered much attention even before being aired, as it was a CF for a diet product with Girls’ Generation, who is known as the “beautiful legs group” in Japan.

The nine members gathering together despite their busy individual and unit activities also garnered attention. The CF was divided into a TV and movie version and has become a hot issue amongst netizens after behind-the-scenes footage showed staff members making “cameo” appearances in the CFs.

This CF was filmed in April at a studio in Kyunggi-do. It was a hard schedule that started at 10 AM and ended the following day at 3 AM. The person in charge of the Yakult CF stated, “The hardest thing to do was choosing a day to film, because it was not easy getting all nine Girls’ Generation members in one place at the same time.”

One staff member stated, “Everyone on set was overwhelmed by Sooyoung and Yoona’s ‘doll-like bodies’. Everyone stopped and stared at the charisma they gave off when walking down the runway.”

They filmed CFs which will be shown on television and others to be shown on alternative mediums. Other than Girls’ Generation, the people who appeared in them were staff members on set, the advertiser, and the promoter.

The assistant manager of Korea Yakult’s Integrated Marketing and Communication’s team, Seo In-Ho, revealed what it was like on the set, saying, “Their [Girls' Generation's] manners are also on the level of global stars. You couldn’t find any domineering attitude from them, and they looked like cute younger sisters, taking photos with their smartphones together when resting.”

The homepage for “LOOK” also proved Girls’ Generation’s explosive popularity. The website, http://www.dietlook.co.kr, which provides wallpapers, making films, and model photo downloads, has been recording an average of over 10,000 visitors a day.

Meanwhile, a staff member of Korea Yakult revealed, “The second CF for ‘LOOK’, matched with the summer season, will be revealed in early July.”

Tiffany and Seohyun Talk About Girls’ Generation’s Life Span and Seohyun’s Pure Image on ‘Talk Concert’

On May 10th, Tiffany and Seohyun appeared on MBC’s “Joo Byungjin’s Talk Concert”, along with labelmates Leeteuk and Eunhyuk from Super Junior and TVXQ’s Yunho and Changmin. On the show, Tiffany and Seohyun talked about the life span of girl groups and their hope to continue promoting as Girls’ Generation, as well as Seohyun’s troubles with her “proper lifestyle” image.

Tiffany stated, “When Girls’ Generation first debuted, it’s true that I thought, ‘We’ll probably last about five years, tops.’ But as we continued to promote, I wanted to be active as Girls’ Generation even more and wanted to continue on together.” She added, “One would expect to become greedy for individual activities, but I want to promote together as a group more.”

Seohyun added, “There are a lot of people who don’t think girl groups last very long, but Girls’ Generation wants to break that theory.”

Later in the show, Seohyun discussed the difficulties that come with her “proper lifestyle” image. She admitted, “People think of my entire image as a kid who lives a straight and narrow life, so I can feel myself not being able to act comfortably. I’ve been thinking that I want to go through some different life experiences and have been learning a lot while living with my other members.”

She continued, “People think, ‘That girl Seohyun sleeps at twelve o’clock, is strict on herself, and has a lot of things she shouldn’t do’. At one point, I felt like I was holding myself down too much. I have had a lot of worries lately.”

TVXQ’s Changmin reassured her, saying, “As another person who lived as the youngest member of an idol group at such a young age, there are a lot of things that I agree on and can sympathize with.”

Professional Baseball Players Wish to Train With Jessica

Girls’ Generation’s Jessica recently became a worldwide sports sensation as baseball players from professional leagues all around the globe have approached her with requests to have her train them. Some of the Major League Baseball star pitchers to express interest in training under Jessica are Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants, Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers, and Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies, among others.

The sudden spike in requests to work with Jessica on pitching techniques were a direct result of a recent broadcast of ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption”, a sports talk show that airs in the United States. In the broadcast, a clip was played from Jessica’s recent appearance at a baseball game featuring the Samsung Lions vs. the LG Twins. Jessica was selected to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the game, but she surprised everyone in attendance as she threw a pitch that was even more impressive than those thrown by the pitchers for either team.

Jessica’s stunning pitch was also covered by major sports news outlets such as NBC Sports as well as media outlets like The Huffington Post and Deadspin.

ESPN baseball analysts discussed Jessica’s impressive pitching technique and said, “She threw a split-finger fastball, and in that type of pitch the ball normally takes a sharp downward dive when it gets close to the batter. It’s a tough pitch for batters to hit, and a very difficult one for pitchers with small hands to throw. Jessica is obviously a very petite young woman, and her hands are probably not very large. That makes it even more amazing that she was able to throw a splitter with so much velocity and with a sharper dive than any major league pitcher in the world right now. A scout for a unnamed Major League Baseball team confirmed, “We have contacted Jessica’s representatives with SM Entertainment about the possibility of signing her as either a starting pitcher or at the very least a pitching coach.” SM Entertainment is rumored to be considering several offers, but sources say they will most likely decline, because they appear to have determined that Jessica’s overwhelming pitching technique would create an unfair advantage for whichever team signs her.

Sooyoung Transforms into a Barbie Doll for ‘High Cut’

In a photoshoot for the May 17th edition of “High Cut” magazine, Sooyoung donned a blonde wig and showed off her Barbie doll-like beauty.

This pictorial features the 2012 S/S Tory Burch collection which was inspired by Deauville, a popular French beach vacation spot in the 1920′s. The refreshing resort look, elegant dress, and feminine red color show off Sooyoung’s perfect fashionista appearance.

After the photoshoot, Sooyoung spoke in an interview about her upcoming drama debut in tvN’s “The 3rd Hospital”. She revealed, “Even though I have no aegyo, I have to act as ‘Euijin’, who has lots of aegyo, and it’s tiring.” She also said, “Girls’ Generation members have no aegyo towards men, so I can’t learn from them.”

Sooyoung then talked about the members’ lives as Girls’ Generation, saying, “I succeeded in life because of the other members. While different people my age are working part-time jobs to afford tuition, I’m riding in a ‘dream car’ with eight people.” She also showed her humble side, confessing, “I am given more than what I should be given for my abilities and receiving so much love.”

Finally, Sooyoung spoke about her recent reputation as a fashionista, saying, “I have always had an interest in fashion, so thank you for acknowledging that.” She complimented Jessica as well, adding, “Truthfully, I didn’t know that Jessica was so interested in fashion. When we were young, she just wore t-shirts and jeans. She has a naturally beautiful figure and now that she’s looking for clothes that suit her, I think she has really become a fashionista.”

Girls’ Generation – TTS Wins ‘Champion Song’ on ‘Show Champion’

On May 15th, Girls’ Generation – TTS won first place on MBC’s “Show Champion”. This is Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun’s second week in a row winning the “Champion Song” and continues their success with “Twinkle” as Girls’ Generation’s first subunit.

Girls’ Generation – TTS unfortunately wasn’t present to receive the award due a busy schedule, but did record “Twinkle” to the delight of fans attending the filming and watching on TV. This performance was given a unique spin and began with Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun rising on a platform in the center of the stage while dressed in beautiful pink, black, and white outfits.

Girls’ Generation Given the First Hangul Smart Domain

On May 14th, the Hangul Smart Domain Organization announced that Girls’ Generation took first place in a poll to decide which girl groups would receive a Hangul Smart Domain, coming on top of nine other popular K-Pop girl groups. Kara and Wonder Girls were in second and third place, respectively. As a result, these three girl groups will be the first girl groups in the country to receive a Hangul Smart Domain.

Fans from all over the world participated in the poll, which began on May 3rd. The poll closed at midnight on May 11th, after 23,274 people had voted. During the voting period, only one vote per day was allowed for each IP address.

Girls’ Generation won 48.22% of the votes, thus winning first place. Right behind them was Kara with 30.17%, and Wonder Girls took third with 11.09%. All together, these three groups had 89% of the votes, thus verifying their immense popularity. The rest of the girl groups and their results were 4Minute (3.82% of the votes), Secret(2.01%), T-ara (1.92%), SISTAR (0.84%), miss A (0.69%), 2NE1 (0.66%), and After School (0.53%).

However, fans could express their opinions in other ways besides simply voting. On the polling site, fans discussed who would receive the first Hangul Smart Domain. Instead of slander and arguments, many of the 2,600 comments were messages supporting the singers. This surprising development showed the fans’ mature sides. In addition, these messages were left not only by Korean fans but international fans as well, thus confirming the impact of “Hallyu”.

Now that the winners have been determined, Girls’ Generation, Kara, and Wonder Girls will receive Hangul Smart Domains with the web addresses of “http://소녀시대.홈”, “http://카라.홈”, and “http://원더걸스.홈”, respectively. The fan clubs of these groups will also be able to use these domains at “http://소녀시대.팬”, “http://카라.팬”, and “http://원더걸스.팬”. Each address will be connected to the groups’ homepages as well as their fanclub sites.

Next, Hangul Smart Domain will be conducting a boy idol group popularity poll for the same purpose. TVXQ, SHINee, Super Junior, Big Bang, Busker Busker, CNBlue, FT Island, and Beast are some of the expected candidates.

The Short Member Full of Big Surprises: A Portrait of Sunny for Her 23rd (24th) Birthday

It’s ironic how the smallest things can be so full of surprises, isn’t it? And yet, this always seems to be the truth. Perhaps we shouldn’t be so astonished anymore, but honestly, who can’t help but be surprised at what Sunny Lee Soonkyu does? She’s a singer, dancer, actress, television emcee, variety show star, model, spokeswoman, and radio personality. She catches chickens, handles snakes, and takes care of cows. She protects fellow members from unwanted advances. However, she also makes the cutest faces and says the cutest things, so much so that many people want to punch her in the face. No matter how you view Sunny, whether you like the ditzy persona she takes on for fun, or the responsible and brave go-getter she becomes when everybody else is scared off, there is no denying that Sunny can do everything.

The first thing anybody should think of with any Girls’ Generation member is singing. Sunny is one of the main singers, and despite the fact that she has massive connections as Lee Sooman’s niece, Sunny actually had the foresight to become successful on her own volition. In fact, she even started out with a rival talent agency before transferring over to SM Entertainment so that cries of nepotism would not arise. However, one listen to her voice would have calmed everybody’s fears anyway. Even though she shares the spotlight with eight other girls in most songs she partakes in, one can easily tell how amazing Sunny’s talents are. Just like what she can do off the stage in her own life, she can take on the cute, high voice or the deeper, fuller projection depending on what the song calls for, something most of the other members don’t do. Sunny is also talented enough to participate in soundtracks as a solo artist, like with “Finally Now” from “Story of Wine”, or in duets, like with Taeyeon in “Heading to the Ground”’s “It’s Love”.

Like all the other members though, being a part of Girls’ Generation requires an all-around ability to entertain. Sunny definitely takes this to heart. The first time we ever saw her true fearless character was when she handled a snake on “Factory Girl” when the other girls were unsurprisingly scared. She further showed her ability to handle animals and hard work on “Invincible Youth”, catching chickens in mid-air and being in charge of Greeny the cow, and even taking care of a donkey in the second season of the show. Her reputation as the smartest and most experienced member has earned her the nickname of “Invincible President”, among other monikers. Of course, if she can use her aegyo to get army soldiers to do work for her, she doesn’t hesitate to do so.

However, using aegyo has its risks as well. While most fans may love Sunny’s random displays of cuteness, most of her fellow Girls’ Generation members, and even some others close to her, seem to tire of this personality. For every Boom that Sunny melts, there’s a Jessica to yell at her, a Yoona to punch her, a Tiffany to kick her, or a Minho to go after her. Nevertheless, Sunny still performs her famous pouts and begging, much to the delight of the fans.

Sunny’s aegyo has taken a bit of a backseat lately, though, since she has to maintain her professionalism as one of the busiest Girls’ Generation members. Her acting talents have taken her from voicing a koala in the animated film “Koala Kid: Birth of a Hero” to acting on stage in the musical “Catch Me If You Can”. She has hosted the radio show “Chunji” and TV shows “The M” and “Music Island”. Of course, she has fun with all of this as well, like teaching Sunhwa moves to “Oh!” on “The M”. But a job still has to be done professionally and with class, and Sunny has handled everything put in front of her well.

To this point, it’s been well-addressed that Sunny is rarely fearful of anything or anyone, and that she attacks each task with vigor. So it is mildly surprising that the one thing Sunny is afraid of is fireworks, due to living in Kuwait for a couple years during the height of the Persian Gulf War. She has been seen cowering while Tiffany holds her and covers her ears. But despite the fact that Sunny is afraid of this one thing when she can handle a lot of other items most people will shy away from, this only adds to the huge character packed into her short body, making her the Sunny everyone adores. Sunny epitomizes the idea of not judging a book by its cover, because if you do, a surprise is always going to be in store. Maybe she will get a surprise birthday party for her 23rd (24th) birthday, but even if she doesn’t, Sunny deserves a happy birthday nonetheless.

Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun Appear on KBS 2TV’s ‘Gag Concert’

On May 13th, Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun appeared on KBS 2TV’s “Gag Concert” as part of promotions for their first mini-album, “Twinkle”. The three acted out a short sketch in which Tiffany played the love interest of the main actor. Taeyeon and Seohyun then entered the scene as her sisters, and together they performed part of the choreography from “Twinkle”. Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun later also danced parts of “Hoot” and “Gee”.

The sketch included many references to other activities by Girls’ Generation, including Taeyeon and Seohyun’s “marriages” to Jung Hyungdon and Jung Yonghwa, respectively, from the show “We Got Married”. Taeyeon also showed off her infamous impression of Maria Sharapova.

I definitely think releasing “The Boys” in the US helped their popularity. I’ve noticed so many new SONEs lately that give “The Boys” credit for introducing the girls to them. There’s been a large increase in international news about Girls’ Generation, and K-Pop in general, since “The Boys” was released and since they appeared on Letterman and “Live With Kelly”. However, I think the clearest evidence that “The Boys” helped their international popularity is actually the success of “Twinkle”. “The Boys” didn’t crack the Billboard 200 chart, and the single got as high as #74 on the US iTunes chart. “Twinkle” got to fourth on the US iTunes albums chart and broke a record by debuting at #126 on the Billboard 200 chart, the highest ever for a Korean artist. That to me is proof that “The Boys” helped. I had my doubts when SM was releasing “The Boys” because it wasn’t a full English album. I still think that releasing an album made for the US would have been better, but it’s hard to argue with the success that “Twinkle” has had. I think Girls’ Generation definitely has the potential to become big in the US, but it’s going to be hard, really hard. I am looking forward to their English album. It’s going to be a game-changer one way or another.

I think that “The Boys” definitely helped the girls to gain recognition in other parts of the world. There was a lot of hype about the album prior to its release and the fact that Teddy Riley helped to produce the title track definitely cast more attention on them. Without the release of “The Boys” in USA, I don’t think the girls would have nailed a performance on “Live With Kelly” or “The Late Show with David Letterman”. Also, I think that without “The Boys”, Girls’ Generation would probably not have been able to appear on “Le Grand Journal”. Truth be told, I didn’t like the method that SM was using to promote Girls’ Generation’s album. The album containing remixes was extremely redundant in my opinion and it even seemed to a certain extent, like a cheap stunt to rake in profits. Also, I thought that SM could have prepared a full English album for the girls to debut in America seeing as how the music industry there is full of potential for the company as well as the girls. Obviously, I hope that they will eventually be able to make it big there. The American music industry is the biggest in the world and succeeding there practically guarantees the girls a ride to outer space (It’s Taeyeon’s dream!). I’m looking forward to seeing their English album, but I think making it big in America will probably be the hardest challenge the girls have ever faced.

I think all the members have a different way of commanding the stage so it’s hard to say who would have the strongest out of all of them. For instance, Taeyeon can literally just stand in one spot and captivate everyone by singing one of her OSTs, or, when she gets a chance with a dance solo, Hyoyeon can dominate the stage. How about on Letterman when the camera couldn’t stay off of Sooyoung and her trademark hair flips? I think that’s what makes them so great. Individually they have a strong stage presence, but the strongest is all nine together at the same time.

From what I can see, Taeyeon is the most popular member. All of her goods sell out first and her fangoods get ridiculous amounts of orders. Many many people list her as their bias. It’s not without reason though. She is pretty amazing!

I think it would be a little unfair to judge who has the strongest stage presence based on their solo stages alone. However, I think that Yuri and Sooyoung have the ability to attract the camera towards them without trying too hard. For example, Yuri has very good facial expressions which are perfect for the cameras while Sooyoung knows how to be sexy without trying too hard. Of course, the other girls are incredible when they perform too. Taeyeon can silence a whole stadium with her soulful ballads while Yoona can easily capture everyone’s attention. However, like what MoonSoshi9 Oppa said, I think that their stage presence is the strongest when they are performing together.

I feel that the popularity of each member fluctuates greatly. There are some members who always seem to be popular, but there are also some who seem to come and go like the seasons. For example, Taeyeon and Yoona seem to be the all-time favourites, while the others shine according to the various concepts. Hyoyeon outshone the other girls in “The Boys”, while Jessica was very popular during “Tell Me Your Wish” due to her blonde hair. But with an international fan-site of over 200, 000 members, I can safely say that the girls are very, very popular, whether individually or as a group.
