Back at the end of October, Girls’ Generation came to New York City for SM TOWN Live in New York. While they were in town they stopped by the studio of Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, a syndicated radio program, to sit down for an interview.
TJ, the host for the interview, welcomed the girls warmly and provided a fun atmosphere. Unsurprisingly, Jessica and Tiffany answered the majority of questions due to their being fluent in English, but Sooyoung got to chime in with her fluent Japanese as she said hi to one of TJ’s friends.
Jessica and Tiffany talked a lot about their pre-debut days and how they came to be in Korea and part of Girls’ Generation. The girls also showed their thanks to TJ by giving him a copy of their album and a photobook.
The interview was very entertaining and got to show off some back story to Girls’ Generation, as well as some of the charms that makes them loved by so many. Check out the full interview below, or head over to the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show website to download the interview.

“Is this a cult?”
I think it’s really hard for people in this country to understand the controlled and restrictive environment these girls live in. Can you imagine an American pop star living in dorms or having the record company have almost total control of what they do and say? It’s inconceivable.
JeTi moment when Tiff said, “We’re so meant to be!” OMG, I just had to point that out. ♥
Also, I can never get tired of their English. It’s like music to my ears. ^^
Omg tj I wish Elvis Duran spoke on the interview too but yey tj <3 I listen to that show everytime I drive to school and theyre a pretty big deal. Now…if only they show up in the Elvis Duran show… xD.
I wish this was longer!! >_<
I love the laid back feel of this interview. Tiffany and Jessica were just speaking so freely. I LOVE IT! ♥ :D
TJ's funny too. xD I love how he just speak so freely. He asks questions that you usually don't hear Korean MCs ask and I really like it, lol.
“This morning we went to go get coffee and they were like KONICHIWA! And I was like.. I speak English. And I’m.. Korean.” and TJ attempting to speak Korean made me laugh so hard I was jumping up and down, LMFAO!! xDD
I love the stories of how Jessica and Tiffany got scouted too. I feel like I'm able to learn more about them. I like it. (:
best interview that i heard yet ;D
i love this guy! the interview sound so much fun if only it was live :(
awesome cant wait to catch the interview ^^ yep naturally sica and tiff caught most of the q’s ^^ but im really proud of the girls having advanced so far…it really has been such a ploeasuere to9 see them grow and mature…sigh i just wish i could be always there to keep supporting them at every event..haha..anyway, it really is a SO NYUH SHI DAE, now and always..SNSD fighitng!`
Elvis Duran radio is REALLY famous. This is great news!!
i love this TJ guy!
he’s so funny & friendly :3 its very entertaining.
i hope the girls will be interviewed again in the same radio show in the future :D
“This morning we went to go get coffee and they were like KONICHIWA! And I was like.. I speak English. And I’m.. Korean.”
LOL
Interesting(^-^)
@Tati-semi
Lol dude u just said wut I was gonna write xD
nice interview! it was really fun.
and i’m sure they will be a success if they really promote to US. Go GG!
Great relaxing atmosphere and charming, considerate questions from the host :D A very good one indeed. Thanks for posting.
The interview is too short! I hope it was 2 hours or something. haha. i really enjoyed this interview and them speaking in english, tiffany and jessica at least, was a real treat! I hope the other girls will improve more on their english so they can talk on future interviews. I can see a bright future in the US for our girls. So proud of them, and I love it when the DJ complimented them on how humble they are. That’s what really sets them apart from other artists and it’s great that people notice it. I will forever love these girls and i can’t wait for more soshi activities in north america.
oh my goodness surprises after surprises coming out one by one with these girls. 1st we heard The Boys as background music in Extra, then a MTV Iggy interview, then E! News mention The Boys on top 3 list on youtube, then Access Hollywood interview and so on with other news sources. Now the latest is this American radio interview coming out. Oh my gosh this is truly amazing, I hope 2012 will be a huge success for the girls here in the states and anywhere else they’ll be going to, to promote their music. i remember i use to listen to this dude too on Y100 morning show here in FL. i really hope more people can see how hard working, dedicated and humble they are even though they are on top in Asia. i seriously can’t wait for when they start dropping more English songs for their International fans. i still prefer kpop because that’s one of the reason(s) i fell in love with them, but it’s our girls and i’m a S♥NE FOR LIFE which means that whatever they are promoting i’ll do my best to support no matter what. Kamsahamnida SSF for keeping us updated. :D
Just fyi this radio show is called Elvis Duran and the Z morning zoo. I used to listen it all the time. It is part of the radio station Z100 which is one of the most popular radio stations in the tri state area (New York and new Jersey area). This is great that they were able to get an interview with such a prestigious radio station. This is very good publicity!
that was a really great interview!
i really, really liked it! i loved the
relaxed nature of it. he was able
to tease and joke with the girls,
and even they had some witty
comments of their own. i’m not
saying one is better or worse, but
the interviews in asia are just different.
i love them, but it is refreshing to here
an interview like this. look forward to
many more as snsd takes over america!!!
So I think I just embarrassed myself! When he started to read the lyrics to Gee I literally laughed SO hard if I had still been drinking my coke, it would have been all over the computer screen! It’s was so funny! It was probably the best part of the whole interview! I was a bit sad that we didn’t get to hear Seohyun and Sooyoung speak English – we know they are doing well – and I wanted to hear more about Gee. I also like that the girls managed to keep cool under the fire of questions which are probably very different from the types of questions they normally get from the fan base in Korea.
I am glad to hear that more stuff from their time in America is surfacing – I was worried that it had stopped. I mean, I’m still a little peeved about the whole Maxi-single thing. MTV did a great job in keeping the girls in the spot light for i think 2 weeks and then news articles and magazines really kept them in the US eyes which seemed to be smart so that when the maxi single came out, they were not just some random group but rather a group that had been getting a lot of attention….
but now with the maxi single delayed, I was worried that with no more news on our girls, the maxi single would have a harder time. hopefully, this is a sign of the maxi single coming out soon?
Awesome interview! One of the best so far! Really entertaining, friendly and frank host, he’s being curious while still respecting the culture differences.
Woahh the best interview ever! This was so entertaining and Jessica and Tiffany spoke so much and they were so open. TJ sounds very nice to and he is so funny. I wish they would have many interview like this. And the way Jessica said “This was a bad joke” was so cute. I smiled the whole video and I laughed so many times like then Sooyoung had to say that his friend is sexy. And he thinks that SNSD is very friendly and humble !! Ofcourse we know that but now we have another SONE joining us ^^ I guess he has fallen for their friendliness and their down-to-earth attitude ♥♥♥
I loved this interview! The host was funny without being condescending. He asked the questions from an American POV, the questions that we’re all thinking, while still being respectful. I swear when I first heard about Jessica being scouted I had the same reaction. He was very respectful. And there you have it, another account of how humble our 9 ladies are in person. Can’t forget Sooyoung’s Japanese either, so jealous of that Shin guy lol Sooyoung-san wa sekushi desu yo!! On a side note, I’m kind of embarrassed for my country when Fany mentioned how ppl just assume they’re Japanese or whatever other nationality. Frustrating. But it’s getting better (at least I think…)
SNSD Hwaiting!!
Holy crap this interview is amazing. The host was good, and I’d probably actually listen to this guy if he were on radio where I’m living. He got the girls laughing a lot, which makes me laugh a lot. I can imagine some of the girls in the background laughing along and not saying anything as Jessica and Tiffany talk to him. You can tell he’s really mindboggled by how Jessica and Tiffany came to join the group, and they didn’t even cover what happened with Sunny and her country and company hopping to end up with the rest of them. His asking if it was a cult and their reactions to it had me trying to stifle my laughter in the library. “Noooo we’re for real!” I failed to hold it back when he tried speaking some Korean, which made Tiffany ask him to do it one more time and all the girls in the back crack up. You can hear Taeyeon’s trademark laugh in the back too! Then Jessica’s “Dirty words?!” Man this was so good. Thanks for bringing it up!
I really hope in the coming year i’ll be able to listen to hours upon hours of radio here in North America dedicated to the girls!
Can I just say how proud I am of these girls? I listened to Elvis Duran and the Morning Show EVERY DAY on the way to school. I never thought I would be so jealous of TJ and I cannot begin to explain how epic it is for the girls to be on this show. Trust me, this is THE most popular radio show on the East Coast. Now please excuse me while I go spazz some more!
