At yesterday’s “28th Golden Disk Awards”, Girls’ Generation received both the Popularity Award and a Disk Bonsang award for “I Got A Boy”. The night began with Taeyeon and Tiffany at the red carpet for the event, where the two posed for photos with Oh Sangjin, their co-host for the latter half of the show.
In the first half of the “28th Golden Disk Awards”, Girls’ Generation was awarded the Popularity Award. Taeyeon and Tiffany accepted the award on behalf of Girls’ Generation, thanking fans for voting. Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Oh Sangjin then hosted the second half of the show, where Girls’ Generation received a Disk Bonsang for “I Got A Boy”. Yuri and Sooyoung appeared on stage to accept the Disk Bonsang for Girls’ Generation and were joined by Taeyeon and Tiffany. Yuri and Sooyoung thanked fans, the staff of SM Entertainment, Lee Sooman, and their managers during their award speech. Other Disk Bonsang winners included SHINee, f(x), EXO, Infinite, B1A4, Cho Yongpil, and BEAST.
Other members of Girls’ Generation unable to attend the event celebrated Girls’ Generation’s win through social networking sites. Sunny gave her thanks to fans during her Instagram chat session and Jessica left a message in the comment section of her latest photo on Weibo, saying, “congrats s♥ne”.

yo i thought K-Sone lost at the voting for Popular award, but i guess in the end it comes down to the judges decision on that one. this here also proves that our girls are still extremely popular and still leading the grid.

that’s because the “big winner” sold over a million copies together with their multiply album releases and well GDA officials consider those multiple releases as ONE big whole album. i believe our Soshi here would have gotten the price with their ONE IGAB album, since the bloody thing sold almost 300K. anyway Bonsang isn’t that bad and it’s another trophy to add to their long list of trophies. :)
I gave the Daesang album (EXO Growl?) a try, and couldn’t understand why people loved it. First, it doesn’t sound Korean/(East) Asian/Oriental at all—not even a tiny bit; the choreography strengthens the observation. Second, compared to the hits in Western pop music (which I don’t really like), it is simply a mediocre make; I found nothing interesting in it—again, not even a tiny bit.
I have a feeling that nowadays the mainstream of K-Pop is fundamentally misguided. I guess most people only pay attention to appearance though, so even mediocre songs/music videos continue to receive hundreds of thousands of likes/up votes. It’s good to have SNSD holding a firm ground with actual East Asian music (I mean, at least there are East Asian elements in their music that make them stand out). Anyway, their style is also rapidly changing—well, it really depends on SM’s decisions, and over time I found it increasingly hard to appreciate their new releases (there are still hidden gems in their albums, though). Let’s look forward to what they are gonna offer in the next album.
Keo – You’re also slightly overlooking something…how well the winner did in Korea. If you were in Korea during the past few months, you’d know how huge “Growl” was. Almost every shop, even mainstream radio, was playing. That’s not to say they weren’t playing SNSD, but it’s not like it came out of nowhere. Plus, this is from people in Korea. So what if they liked another group more when it came to sales? They are ALLOWED to. They aren’t forced to pick SNSD every time.
Let’s not also forget SM’s little marketing ploy of having 10 different covers for “IGAB”, which obviously increased sale’s with people clamoring and buying in-order to have all 9. ;P Not like they didn’t have multiple album versions unlike them.
