I want to tell you a story about someone.
No, it’s not a story of fairytale love and happy endings.
It’s not a story where every moment calls for a musical sing-along.
I want to tell you of an ordinary person…
…who became extraordinary.
She came into this world like everyone else – alone.
Kicking and screaming…
She grew up with stars in her eyes and a song in her heart.
She learnt about family.
She learnt about sweat and blood.
About heartache and pain.
But she was never alone. No.
She made some friends along the way.
She discovered the spotlight.
And discovered that this shining light can make the world seem cold.
Sometimes she stumbled, sometimes she fell.
But her friends helped her back up again.
Together, they did amazing things.
Saw amazing things.
Together, they became amazing.
But she never stopped dreaming.
And no one would take those dreams from her. Not anyone. Not ever.
So she said farewell; there was another place she needed to be.
She wiped the tears from her eyes and found her steely resolve.
And off she went. The next journey.
If she looked back, she would have seen no one behind her.
But that’s only because all who loved her, already walked by her side.
So the future shone down upon her, reaching out to embrace her with open arms.
And we were there for her every step along the way.
Her name is Jessica Jung, and today we celebrate her 27th year on this planet.
