Thank you for sharing!!! Have just realized how rivalry it is between SM and DSP through this post. It's also gud to see SM takes so much care on our girls activities.

This was a very good, interesting read, thank you for translating! It looks like it took a ton of time and effort, so I really appreciate it. There were 2 things that really got my attention.

/rant

The first was the mention of all the "potential" members of SNSD. There seem to be a lot of mentions by people who say they could've been members of SNSD. In my opinion, that's total BS. SNSD would not have been SNSD without the members who make it up right now. Anyone who says they "could have been" a member of SNSD doesn't understand that SNSD is more than just a name or a group. SNSD is made up of nine specific girls, and (again, my opinion) there is no way that SNSD would have succeeded as much as it has, had any current member been replaced with someone else, had there been any more members, or had there been any less. All these people saying they "could have been", where were the laments in 2007 and 2008? They only see the glamour, the fame, the success, but don't seem to remember the hells, hate, struggles, criticisms, schedules, and endless endless practices that these nine went through breaking the market open for girl groups, and are still going through. Only a certain nine girls we know and love endured that storm. Of the 6+ billion people out there, only these 9 know exactly what it is they went through on their road to get where they are now. I don't think anyone else in the world deserves to say that they "could have been" part of that, when they didn't walk that road themselves.

/end rant

The second was the contrast of the contrast between the girls' debut in Japan compared to their initial activities in Korea. When they first started out in 2007, SM seemed to throw them literally everywhere lol. Appearances anywhere they could get it, performances every day, maybe more often than that, dramas, DJing, hosting of shows... what didn't they do? In Japan though, they seemed so much more cautious, getting attention through YouTube and other things that didn't involve a lot of risk. They even let another rival girl group go "first". Now I can see why, seeing as how S.E.S. didn't do very well when SM decided to promote them. All the caution seems to have paid off though. Mr. TAXI and concert tour anyone? It's a Girls' Generation in Japan now too!

Thank you so much for the translation of this chapter. I'm looking forward to the next ones!

Wow, that contained quite a bit of stuff that I didn't already know, thanks! I think I might buy the book now and maybe paperclip the translations in or something? Haha, I don't know the aesthetics of it yet, but maybe!

Excellent job...you didn't just translate, you really made the prose flow in English! If you're not already, you should seriously look into a job as a professional translator! Thanks again for this, it's very interesting, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest...apparently there's a bit about Hyo once considering leaving the band in this book? I've read news about that before, but it never really gave the reason why.

Thank you for the translation.
Learned more about the workings of SM and about the girls.
I'd known that Sunny was under another entertainment company before joining SM, but I didn't know that she had a total of 9 years as a trainee. No wonder she's soo jjiang.
Looking forward to the next translation.
Can't wait to learn more about the girls.
