How I Became a S♥NE
Spoiler
Hello, you can call me Nyo. I've been a fan of Girls' Generation since September 2010 but I didn't consider myself a S♥NE until August 2011. I love all nine girls with all my heart but my bias is Kim Hyoyeon and I've been a Hyohunnie since November 2011. As a casual fan of SoShi, I shipped TaengSic and YoonHae and still do! I've also slowly warmed up to HyoSun ever since Invincible Youth 2 was announced.
Some background on how I became a fan... First of all, I didn't listen to K-Pop at all prior to August 2010. The only Korean pop artist I knew of was BoA who I liked a lot in 2005 when I was still really big into J-Pop. However, I never really 'followed' her and had absolutely no interest in learning more about Korean pop music. I was one of those dumb kids who thought J-Pop was superior and everything else was irrelevant.
So, I started listening to K-Pop in August 2010 when a couple of friends on an anime website I used to frequent linked me to Wonder Girls' "Nobody" and Brown Eyed Girls' "Abracadabra". I started looking up more groups and really became obsessed with listening to as many groups as possible. One group in particular was a rookie group named Nine Muses who at the time was promoting their song "No Playboy". Back then, they were constantly being compared to a group named 'SNSD' which annoyed me and I tried to ignore the comments at first but eventually I decided to look them up.
Even though the fans were really annoying and I held a sort of resentment against SoShi because of it, I still really enjoyed their song "Run Devil Run" and also the Japanese version of "Genie" which were their latest releases at that point. I can't tell you how many times I watched the music video for "Run Devil Run" on my iPhone back then. I had to resort to using my iPhone for a couple of months because we had no internet connection at the time.
Around October, I discovered K-Pop fan forums and the first one I joined was Angelic Melody - a forum for Nine Muses - which is now defunct. In December when we finally got internet access again, I immediately joined Soshified plus a lot of other forums for other K-Pop groups I liked. However, I didn't really visit SSF at all because the airport themed layout was too much for our crappy connection to handle.
Throughout 2011, I visited SSF a lot more often when we finally got a decent internet connection. I was especially active the most in the early months of that year but sporadically throughout the rest of the year. Most of my posts consisted of 'thank you' replies to threads in the Soshi Subs Download section because I was and still am catching up on everything subbed.
Even though I've considered myself a S♥NE since August 2011, I haven't posted on SSF that much or been really active here other than to watch subbed vids. However, it's now midway through 2012 and I've finally realized that SSF really should be my new 'internet home'. In December 2011, I decided to leave a community that I had been a part of since 2005 but since then I have been sort of 'lost' as to where I should 'stay' at. I literally joined more forums than I can count on my fingers and toes but I don't even visit like 95% of them.
This past week, I decided to read through all the articles on the SSF portal (except for old news, really) and I've come to realize what an amazing group of people there are here. I feel like I could really get along with the people on SSF more than anywhere else. I just haven't really tried. I hope to make friends here on SSF who share the same love of Girls' Generation as I do, among other things.
Don't be afraid to say 'hi' or start a conversation with me, I'd really appreciate it!
